I think the recommendation is to use only one of the Lightroom apps as your MAIN  photo management app (not referring to "Sync".).

Lightroom Desktop HAS to sync (to the Cloud) that is how it is designed to work. Although it installs on your desktop computer it works like an 'online' app.

Lightroom-Classic has a Sync switch that you can turn on/off. However its sync system is different to Lr-Desktop. LrC with Sync 'On' will download ALL files you import through Mobile devices to Lightroom, and it can also sync proxy (smart previews) up to the Cloud from Collections marked specifically to sync.

Where have you read "not to use sync in both Lightroom Classic and Lightroom desktop "?

COMPARE LIGHTROOM & LIGHTROOM-CLASSIC FEATURES

Thanks @willhkirby your screen-clips are helpful.

Maybe the 'Note:' should say not to sync "at the same time".

But I do not see a problem. On occasions (answering forum questions 🙂 ) I have both Lr and LrC running (in Windows) with sync active in both apps, and never a problem. (Not to say problems cannot happen)
