Question

Synchronize Folder

Have been checking my catalog after having to restore a backup.  Running OS X 11.6.8 and Lightroom Classic 11.4.1.

Have a parent image directory with 3 subdirectories beneath it.  The image count tags of the subdirectories equal the image count on the parent.

When I synchronize the parent folder it shows that I am missing 5k images but when I then go to the import screen and go to Show In Finder the image is already there, also when I go back to the grid for one of the photos the app says is missing I can go show to finder and the image is where it should be. Also, when looking at the import grid most of the images show that no preview is available.

To try and find out where the problem lies I went to synchronize folder in each of the subdirectories.  Guess what they all show that there are no errors or missing images.

Have tried numerous backups, integrity checks and optimizing.  Also restarted computer numerous times.

Totally confused as to what is going on and a solution would be very helpful.

Thank you

Dan

You have missing photos, according to Lightroom Classic.

Synchronize folder does not fix this. And the reason is that the photos are already in the Lightroom Classic catalog, just not where you think they are. This happens because you (accidentally) imported the photos using COPY instead of ADD, and so Lightroom Classic only knows about the copy. So you have to fix this problem. And you can't use Synchronize Folders to do this.

You have to locate the photos in Lightroom Classic by following all four of these steps, in order.

  1. Click on "All Photographs"
  2. Turn off filters
  3. Expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)
  4. Search for one of these photos by File Name using the Lightroom Classic filter bar

Once you have found the photos in the Lightroom Classic catalog, right click on "Show in Explorer" (Windows) or "Show in Finder" (Mac) to see where Lightroom Classic thinks the photo is located. Once you have that information, let us know and we can advise on the next steps.

We're trying to help you, so we request you help us by writing in complete English sentences. Thank you.

Thank you for your help.

I have "Shown in Finder" for one of the images and it is exactly where it should be.  I also did the show in finder in the Import Dialog (generated by the Synchronize Folder command) and it comes up with the same place as above.
