Synchronize will not import files that are not in the catalog

At first when I tried to synchronize a folder in Lightroom Classic, Synchronize said there are 424 photos to import, but then it did not import any.

I am on release 15.3.1, which I am told is the latest, and Windows 11 Pro. I have installed all operating system updates and GPU updates. I have also restored preferences in LR Classic. At the top level of my catalog, selecting All Photos, I have tried looking for specific files that are not getting imported, and LR can’t find them, so they can’t be there somewhere else in my catalog. I have never had this problem before. I have quit LR several times, and it sometimes would tell me that there was a corrupt file, so I deleted those files from my system.

Now when I try to synchronize, it says “importing files at their current location”, but nothing ever happens. When I ended the import, it told me that 2 files were unsupported or damaged. The files are type .ARW, created by a Sony A1 camera, that I have had no problems with in the past.

I have also tried the suggestion below, and when I search for photos that should have been imported, LR can’t find them:

  Click on All Photographs on the left hand side of the Library module, under Catalog

  Turn off all filters (Ctrl-L once or twice)

  Expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)

  Search for at least one of these photos by file name, using the Lightroom Filter Bar

Please help!

What I did do that ended up working, was after doing all of below, I let the import process that seemed stuck alone overnight, and in the morning, finally, my newly imported images appeared. Talk about slow!!!  My LRC catalog is very large with over 140,000 photos in it. I need to be able to search them all at one time to be able to respond to photo requests.

It would be a good idea to backup your catalog.  Also, under the LrC File menu, choose Optimize Catalog.

Taking such a long time to run a disk based process could be sign of pending disk failure.

Please show us a screen capture of the entire Library Module screen (do not chop off any part of the Library Module screen) after you perform all four of these steps, making sure the Filter bar is expanded so we can see it in the screen capture and making sure that it shows you have clicked on “All Photographs”.

I stated that I had already done this to no avail. Thanks.

Yes, I wanted to confirm that you did it properly and see the results, but obviously you have found a different solution.

Hey, @photogal11. Welcome to the Lightroom Classic community. I’ll help you figure this out.

Lightroom Classic version 15.4.1 is now available through the Creative Cloud desktop app. Please update and verify if the issue persists.

Where are the catalog, and the raw images stored? Please try to deduce the conditions or numbered steps that can help us recreate this.

For now, (1) Create a new catalog by holding the ALT/Opt key at the launch of Lightroom Classic, or go to File > New catalog.

2 - Import a few sets of images and check if Sync works.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks!
