Question

Syncronise says there are photos to import, but then does not show any.

When I try to syncronise a folder, Syncronise says there are photos to import, but then does not show any.  I think I ran into this once before, but I don't remember how I solved it.  Has anyone else seen this and found the cause?  I am on 14.2 and Windows 10.

Hi @Crystal Visionary

Hope you are doing good!

Try unchecking "Show New Photos Only" in the import dialog. Also, ensure the files aren't already in the catalog and check for hidden or unsupported formats. If the issue persists, try resetting Lightroom preferences.

Thankyou!

If you mean unchecking "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates", this is the worst "solution" because it is not a solution ... it makes the problem worse. Now you have two copies of a photo in your catalog, with (probably) different edits and different user-provided metadata. Then some day in the future you will come across one of the photos and be upset that this isn't the edit you remembered, or that this doesn't have the metadata you think you created. Not good.

Don't uncheck "Don't Import Suspected Duplicates".

I think the explanation for this is as follows. If you use the 'Synchronize Folder' menu, Lightroom will initially just compare the actual contents of the folder with what it has in the catalog for that folder. If it sees images it does not have in the catalog for that folder, then it will say it needs to import them. However, when you tell Lightroom to go ahead with the import, it will check the images against the entire catalog. So if you already imported those images by making a copy in another folder, then Lightroom discovers it does not have to import these images after all. So search for them like @dj_paige said, but remember you could also have renamed them on import...

This happens becuase the photos you want to synchronize are already in the catalog. So no need to synchronize. You can find the photos in your catalog via following ALL 4 of these steps, in order:

  1. In LrC, click on All Photographs (left side of the Library module)
  2. Turn off filters (ctrl-L once or twice)
  3. Expand all stacks (Photo->Stacking->Expand All Stacks)
  4. Use the filter bar to search for one of the photos by file name.
