Tethered capture

There is a glitched with tethered capture shooting from camera to laptop. I haven't been able to shoot tethered for five days now, which effects my photography shoots and obviously makes me look bad infront of clients. I found no information about this so I wasted 45mins at the begining of a shoot truying to sort it out before I gave up. Having this information in advance would have meant I could have been prepared for their technical errors, why don't they email us letting us know about technical glitches in their software?

Instead of being prepared I wasted time and had to keep loading the images into the laptop which is an incredibly slow way to work, especially when you are battling against daylight. The support reps are most unhelpful. You cannot actually log a proper complaint. They won't say when they expect this to be fixed. I am shocked there isn't a torrent of other photographers complaining. I will have to purchase different software in order to shoot as my clients expect to see everythign straight away. So I'll be paying for two versions of the same thing. To be honest I'm thoroughly disappointed with the support team, their attidude sucks, there is no customer care with complaints. Because adobe have monoploised the computer creative industry they have us over a barrel and they don't give a damn. I understand that things go wrong, but how you inform your customers and deal with their complaints matters if you cannot fully deliver on the services you offer.

Always wait before updating your OS. These updates happen every year and can create a panic to those that upgrade early.

I have had a look and Catalina was released in october and I didn't experience any problems until this year. So that doesn't corrolate. If I even didn't update until late november my software was working right up until th 13th december so it sounds as if adobe are looking for a scapegoat. Have you heard of other people having problems with tethering? The adobe team I spoke to before posting on the forum said they were fixing the issue so this must mean that there is a porblem.

By chance are you using a USB 3 port?

My MacBook Pro has USB C and it tether's LR with Catalina. On my 2013 Mac Pro with USB 3 it doesn't work. USB 2 ports work fine too.

When did the glitch  show up? Is it after updating your OS? Did you install Catalina? Is this when the problem started?

Yes that is correct. I spoke to one of the Adobe team and they said they are trying to fix it and to wait for the next lightroom update, which is vague and unhelpful. It doesn't tether on either my laptop or or my imac desktop computer. Any opinion on this?

Back in November (and while Catalina was  Beta) I was seeing a long list of application incompatability issues with Catalina. I never update on the first release of a Full OS change so I stayed with Mojave. It wasn't just Adobe apps that had lots of problems... my calibration software and NAS and anything related to security had major bugs. The new features that Catalina offers like SideCar for example are  cool but not cool enough to comprimise being able to work in all of the apps that I count on. Unfortunately rolling back from Catalina to Mojave won't be easy. Only you can decide if the hassle is worth it to be able to  tether while shooting. It's not  unreasonable to wait for several bug fixes before updating the OS.
