Tethered shooting with Lightroom & Canon EOS 6D Mark II?

Hi,

I have just bought the canon eos 6D mark II, opting for the newer model, thinking it would make things easier, but having tried to set up tethered shooting it seems that this model is not supported yet by lightroom cc - does anyone know of any ways to get around this please?

Or anyone know of plans to add this to the list of models that can be tethered??

Inexperienced lightroom user & photographer so anything to make things easier would be much appreciated

thanks v much!

    Hi bettym,

As of now, there's no information available that when the tethering support available with Lightroom Classic or Lightroom CC.

The raw format is supported for Canon 6D Mark II with both Lightroom versions which was launched recently.

Forget using Lightroom tethering. Canon has free tethering software that works much better. Install the most recent version of Canon Utility and import the captured images into Lightroom.

Yes, I already tethered on this way.... But I like the Lightroom Way much more, it's pretty much faster to load the Pictures in and i dont Need to use so many Tools... Does someone know, when the 6Dmkii will be implemented in Lightroom for tethering?

There aren't any updates or plans that support tethered capture into Lightroom with the new Canon 6D MK II. However, you can technically shoot tethered directly into Lightroom by utilizing both Canon's EOS Utility software and Lightroom's "Auto Import" feature.

First, download the EOS Digital Solution Disk Software here: https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/cameras/dslr/eos-6d-mark-ii/eos-6d-mark-ii?tab=drivers_downloads

*NOTE* You need to your camera's serial number to download

    1. Launch Canon's "Digital Photo Professional 4".

    2. Click on "Remote Shooting" in the menu bar.

    3. Select the destination and name of the folder you want to shoot to.

    4. Launch Lightroom.

    5. Go to File > Auto Import > Enable Auto Import

    6. Go to File > Auto Import > Enable Auto Import Settings

    7. Under "Watched Folder", select the destination that you created in Digital Photo Professional 4

    8. Under "Destination", select the same destination that you created in Digital Photo Professional 4

    9. Keep the Subfolder Name: "Auto Imported Photos"

    10. Click "OK".

    11. Still in Lightroom, click the "+" under "Folder" on the left menu to create a new folder.

    12. Select the destination folder that you created in Digital Photo Professional 4.

    13. Shoot away. The photos will be shooting through Digital Photo Professional 4, but Lightroom will automatically import them as they appear.

It's sounds like a lot, but it's really easy to setup and works well. Once they add support in Lightroom for direct tethered capture with the Canon 6D MK II, you obviously will no longer need to use Canon's EOS utility software.

    Hope this helps!

You don't use DPP. Just use Canon Utility directly.
