There is a wrong file connection and I am getting an error message when trying to show or hide parent files.

I was changing around some things within Lightroom files last week and thought everything was done correctly. But today I saw that there is a wrong connection. In am working on a Mac. In finder, my folder structure is this: 2026 → 2026.08 → other folders. But in Lightroom, there are two 2026.08 folder. One is within the 2026 parent folder, containing other folders. But there is also a separate 2026.08 folder, which contains only one other folder (2026.08.08 - Ameland - sunset walk). In finder, this is all under the same 2026 → 2026.08 folder. There is another problem. When I click on show or hide a parent folder, I am getting this error message:

Database "/Volumes/HD Frouke/Lightroom backup/2026-10-01 1214/Lightroom Catalog/Lightroom Catalog backup 01-10.26 1.lrcat": UNIQUE constraint failed: AgLibraryFolder.rootFolder, AgLibraryFolder.pathFromRoot

sql: UPDATE AgLibraryFolder SET rootFolder = ?,pathFromRoot = ? WHERE id_local = ?; (error code 2067)

I have tried many different things in my original Lightroom catalog, but ended up messing everything up. Luckily I made a couple of backups before I started doing this. How do I make sure that the connections are correct and that I don’t get this error message anymore?

@froukee The root of a drive is directly on the drive itself, not inside any folder. It could be a problem if you chose the same drive and chose to create it in the ‘photography’ folder, but not if you chose another drive this time.

Now this may be hard to believe, but I think here’s the answer to this strange recurrence: Because the ‘Photography’ parent folder in Lightroom shows capitalized, while the folder in the Finder is ‘photography’, I think the cause of your problem is actually the exact opposite of what we thought all this time! I think your entire ‘Photography’ folder is the wrong version that should be fixed, and the ‘2026.08’ with the Ameland subfolder is the only folder currently shown correctly!

So here’s what you should do (make a backup copy of the current catalog first): Follow the procedure again, but this time select the ‘Photography’ folder as the one that needs to be fixed! So to summerize it:

1: Right-click on ‘Photography’ folder in the Lightroom Folders Panel and select "Update Folder Location". In the file browser that then opens, browse to and select the "Capitals Fix" folder. Use the one on your internal disk.

2: Then right-click on "Capitals Fix" in the Folders Panel, and again choose “Update Folder Location". This time browse to and select the “photography” folder on your disk.

3: You’ll probably get the ‘Merge’ question again, but this time that should work correctly...

I think our messages keep crossing each other, which makes the conversation even more complicated than it is. Please don’t take any actions and then send a message about that while waiting for an answer from me. Try the procedure I posted a minute or so ago. If you can find a catalog anymore that is not corrupted, then I can’t help you any further and you’ll have to take it up with Adobe support. I hope the procedure works this time…

Yes, you are totally right, sorry about that. I am trying the procedure with an uncorrupted catalog. I will send an update later.

This looks very much like a capitalization problem. Now before you scream 2026.08 doesn’t have any letters, so there can’t be a capitalization issue, please consider that the parent folder above both of these folders is where the capitalization problem lies.

See https://www.lightroomqueen.com/community/threads/duplicate-virtual-folder-on-import.39703/ for a solution.

Thank you! I still don’t fully understand how to use that in my case though. The parent folder above 2026 is called “photography” and I do remember at some point trying to change the p into a capital P, but I don’t see that version in Lightroom or Finder. So it definitely could have something to do with that. If I make a new folder on my hard drive, like the “Capitals Fix” they are talking about in your link, how do I proceed? I don’t understand which folder would be the “xxxx” that I need to work with in my case.

“XXXX” is whatever folder you want to appear elsewhere in the Folder Panel.
