Question

Time and date exported file don't match original file

Since an update/ system reset/ I don't know, all the images I export don't have the original date from when they were taken anymore. I know in my finder it says 'Date Modified', but I'm refering to when I airdrop my photo's to my iPhone and the pictures all say 'Today'. I'm guessing it's a problem with exporting, because when I import the pictures they go to the right place in my 'timeline of photo's' on the bottom.

How do I solve this?

I just did a quick test, exporting a photo from LR 9.2 and Airdropping it to my iPhone iOS 13.3, and the photo appeared with the correct capture date, not "Today". That suggests the issue may be particular to your situation.

To narrow down the problem, please upload one of the problem photos exported from LR to Dropbox or similar and post the sharing link here. We can examine the metadata and see if the problem occurs with other iPhones.

Ah yeah I think it's my Lightroom indeed, because it didn't have this problem before I reset my Mac.

I posted an old picture in a folder op Dropbox (https://www.dropbox.com/s/n456e42bfdnbnoa/IMG_1322.JPG?dl=0) The problem occurs when I edit a picture and export it.

In the Export settings window, make sure Metadata > Include is set to All Metadata.

Check to see that the original EXIF data is being included in your exported files.

If it is being included, the problem lies with the phone's gallery app you are using.

Many of the basic gallery apps on Android are poorly written and have the same problem of looking at the wrong dates (file system vs EXIF data).

My export settings are set to include All metadata. And it's not something with my phone, because if I Airdop older edited photos to my phone (from when it wasn't a problem) it uses the original data. So the problem came to the surface when I reinstalled Lightroom I think..

When you export photos from LR, LR creates new files, and those files will have their Date Modified and Date Created (as seen in the finder) set to the time of the export, since that is when the files were created/modified.

The capture date (when the shutter was pressed) is stored in an EXIF metadata field inside the photo, and by default all metadata is copied from the original to the exported copy. Unfortunately, the only way in Mac Finder to see the capture date is to look in the preview pane for the Content Created field (what Finder calls capture date). Do View > Show Preview to see the preview pane.

So what can I do about the fact that if I check them on my iPhone the modified date is shown in stead of the capture date? My old exported photos show the capture date, but all the new ones I export show the date modified.

I basically want the edited photos to match with my iPhone galery dates.
