Trouble Searching for Images by Number

I know this is a really basic question, but I'm still confused about how to search for a specific image in Lightroom. This is true even if I have the four-digit number of that image (DSC1234, for example). I'll click on Text and input that number, ("any searchable field" and "contains all") but it won't retrieve that image UNLESS the date currently showing in the catalog is the date in which that image was taken, in which case I don't really need to search for it -- it's already easy to find! Am I just doing something wrong here? I thought organization was a significant part of Lightroom, so it seems to me like there would have be a better way of doing this. Thank you.

You have to go to "All Photographs", then in the filter bar, click on None, then click on text and type in the image name.

The filter bar that you use filters in the currently selected source. So if you select a folder of a particular date, it will only search for that file number in that particular folder. That is why you need to select 'All Photographs' if you do not know in what folder the image is supposed to be.

Thanks, Johan! You could see my response to dj_paige above. I marked that as the "correct answer" simply because he/she was first, but certainly you both provided the information I needed.

Makes total sense, but admittedly I'm not sure I wold have thought of it. It's like I'm only looking at the top of my screen at that point, not the side, and it didn't occur to me that they would be connected. So that's why I ask here! Thank you.
