Trouble with Catalogue Defaults in LR Classic 8.3.1 CR 11.3 using MBP 2006, OSX 10.14.6,

Hi,

Can someone help me sort out my common catalogue settings or find the answers? My searches here have not found answers that help - or my lr seems to be acting differently.

My LR Classic does not seem to be saving or accessing common settings like my identity plate or watermarks. Each time I create a new catalogue I get bog-standard LR instead of the customising I've done in the current catalogue. This means I have to go through the effort of customising the ID plate, creating my watermark all over again, creating a new import pre-set, customising windows, etc....

It's as if there is a default LR template hiding someplace that I cannot find on my system...

It didn't use to be like this but I cannot remember when it started/ with which version of lr.

Really appreciate any support as I create a new catalogue for every shoot and this is using significant time...

Cheers,

nicholas

Spent an hour with Adobe Helpdesk. No solution.

My work-around is to change my workflow... aaarg.

I have now created a "LR Template" Catalogue that I open for each job, import the photos, then export as new catalogue with the client name, then delete all images in the template catalogue.

It's a hassle. It used to be that I could create a custom Ident Plate and watermark and it would cary over to all new catalogues. Looks like this stopped 1 or 2 LR versions ago...

A template Catalog is a good idea IMO since this lets you configure all kinds of things to your liking.

But rather than importing images into this template, and then saving a copy, and then emptying the template of images:

why not save a copy of this empty template Catalog as a file, working outside of LR, using Mac Finder / Windows Explorer.

Then open up this new copy in LR and import images to that - leaving your template still empty, and ready for copying again next time.

If the template Catalog is configured to NOT "store presets with Catalog", those will be held in common across all new Catalogs that are derived from that, as well as each existing Catalog that's set the same way.

    Thanks Richard.

Am curious how to do that.

I know this does not answer your question/complaint, but Lightroom Classic is designed to be used with a single catalog, so consider doing that. Using multiple catalogs has a lot more disadvantages, such as not being able to search through more than one catalog at a time and not being able to sync more than one catalog to the cloud to see your images on mobile devices. Use keywords, collections and smart collections to organise your images, not different catalogs.

    Thanks John

I’m aware of all that. But when each catalogue can be 100Gigs or more or contain 2k images, it becomes quickly unwieldy and I only work on one catalogue at a time and I do not need cloud syncing or search across multiple catalogues.

I need to be able to manage each separately until I get the number and size of images to a manageable level.

Wishing you all the best, Mit freundlichen Grüßen,

    Nicholas

I have only one catalog that contains almost 200,000 images. And that is far from a record. I’ve heard about catalogs with over a million images.

    Hi Nicholas,

Sorry that Lightroom Classic is not saving your catalog settings. That shouldn't be happening, let us help make this right.

Could you please restore Lightroom Classic app preferences to default and let us know if the issue still persists? Please refer this article for step by step instructions: How to set Lightroom Classic preferences

    Thanks,

    Akash

    Thanks Akash

    No nothing changes.

Here is specifically what is happening:

    1. I change the font, color and words of my identity plate.

    2. I show only Library & Develop windows

    3. I set up a custom watermark and save as a new preset

I then go to File/Create New Catalogue

When the new catalogue opens I see an identity plate that is listed as custom but is nothing I have made.

Clicking Identity Plate setup brings up that I have a custom identity plate and not the one I originally set up

Clicking on Edit Watermarks opens with a “custom” watermark just like my Identity Plate… not the one I created

I’m attaching a couple screenshots - hope they come through and this helps….

    Thanks again!

    Nicholas
