Question

Trouble with key code when launching lightroom

I have Lightroom 4 running on my desktop. I recently bought a new laptop and downloaded Lightroom 4. When I launch Lightroom it asks for my key code so I insert the number for  Lightroom 4. It then prompts for another key code because 4 was not the original version, so I type in my key code to Lightroom 3, which by the way, is the second key code shown on my desktop, and a red x appears next to the second key code.

The only other computer I have Lightroom 4 running on is my desktop. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions?

I had considered upgrading to Lightroom 6 but my concern is will be able to launch the application without running into the same issue.

I have tried, unsuccessfully, contacting Adobe. I waited on chat for over an hour before I had to sign off. Last night I waited 45 minutes before they called me back , waited 15 minutes before someone answered, then they ended up transferring me three times, each time I had to wait over 5 minutes. I finally gave up.

Is this normal for their customer service?

Thanks

During the process, you will have to type in your LR 4 serial number and then the LR 3 (or earlier) serial number. If you are getting the red X, you have made a mistake somewhere.

All your serial numbers should be 24 digit (no letters) beginning with 1160. Are they? Answer YES or NO, do not type your serial numbers into your reply.

If LR 4 is running on your other computer, you should be able to retrieve both serial numbers from the proper file. It's called "registration data" in this document: Where to find Lightroom 4 preference files

That is what is so frustrating. I have typed it in several times. I even had my husband check my numbers & it's the same serial number from the registration data from the desktop.

Another possible problem is that you did not download LR 4, you have downloaded some other version of Lightroom that will not accept a LR 4 serial number.
