Question

Unable to export, etc until relaunch

Lightrom Classic, current version (updated 6 days ago) keeps essentially acting as if the files are offline, yet allows full editing in develop mode. Essentially, I can go through and edit an entire project as normal, but when I go to export, the hotkey is unresponsive and the options are greyed out. This is also the case with "edit in PS", AI denoise, and metadata things I don't use. It doesn't show "file offline" or anything indicating that and I can click "show in finder" and it confirms everything is online. The issue is fixed upon restarting LR, until I go edit more stuff and try and export.

And while I'm here, it's not updating star ratings in the filmstrip at the bottom. This was a bug in the last version, it seemed to be fixed for a few days in this version, but now is back.

And while I'm here, it's not updating star ratings in the filmstrip at the bottom.

and

That's because the star ratings don't update in the filmstrip / icons. They are all 3 stars and once edited I bump it up to 4 stars, but the filmstrip doesn't reflect any changes

Have you considered resetting a possible corrupt preferences file?

Revisiting this thread. It's still happening, even after resetting my Lightroom preference file several times.

This has been happening for almost a year throughout so many LR updates. It's driving me insane.

I made a thread about this last year with some good discussion but as it's remained a minor inconvenience throughout so many LRC updates, I'm bringing it back up in hopes someone wants to look into fixing it eventually.

I'm on an M1 Macbook Pro w/ OS 14.5 and a consistently updated creative cloud.

At random times throughout an editing session, LRC will quietly get into this mode where it will disable all export, "edit in", "photo merge", enhance, metadata options. The thing that tells me it's in this mode is that the filmstrip doesn't update star ratings. (I edit 3 star photos and mark each photo 4 stars once finished - and yes, it lets me edit photos internally just fine.)

Restarting it fixes it temporarily but it's sure to return in 10-15 minutes. Resetting LR preferences does not fix it.

It seems that a ton of functionality gets disabled. A quit and relaunch of the app is the only way around it. See attached images of a sample of the tool panels with greyed out options.

Attached a screenshot.

Here are all the symptoms I'm experiencing:

Cannot export at all

Entire "Edit In" dropdown is greyed (Edit in PS etc) (although "merge" is available)

Denoise & Enhance don't load

Develop settings occasionally don't paste in batches

Stacking is all greyed out

All metadata options greyed out

Filmstrip doesn't update star status (this is reflected in the screenshot, note the 4 star filter yet all of the photos show 3 stars)

I can confirm the files are online as I can click "show in finder" and it brings up the file. These issues are all resolved upon restarting LR, until 25-30 mins when it all stops working again. I've restarted LR 4 times today.

This issue is absolutely insane and making editing during my busy season so frustrating. There hasn't been an update to LRC for almost 2 months.

I can confirm I'm also experiencing still this, and other users I know are reporting it as well.

Also, Please,  in LrC, select one of those photos that you cannot export, bring up the Library Module, have it in grid view, and take an entire screen screenshot and share that in a reply.

Please post your System Information as Lightroom Classic (LrC) reports it. In LrC click on Help, then System Info, then Copy. Paste that information into a reply. Please present all information from first line down to and including Plug-in Info. Info after Plug-in info can be cut out as that is just so much dead space to us non-Techs and it takes up vast amounts of scroll space making the reply less readable and less likely that others will bother with your post. Also large amounts of text in a post also render the Translate function inoperable...
