Question

Unable to import photos to Lightroom Classic with Mac

I've been using Lightroom Classic on a Mac consistently for as long as I can remember and only today am I having issues with being able to import photos.

Apple M1 MacBook Air OS 13.2.1  (updated today in an attempt to fix the problem)

Lightroom Classic Version 12.2.1 Camera Raw 15.2 (also updated today in an attempt to fix the problem).

Portable HD Seagate USB External Physical Volume • ExFAT

I typically drop my RAW files (NEF for Nikon, DNG for Ricoh GRIII) onto a portable hard drive, rename the files using Finder's 'Rename' feature, and then ADD them to Lightroom. My Catalog is stored in my MacBook Air as are the Previews.

I can select the source folder, view the images in the grid, and LightRoom is letting me know which files are new and pre-selects them. I then select ADD, it appears to be loading the import, and then I get a message that there are "No Photos in Current Import."

I have reviewed the threads to ensure that Lightroom Classic has Privacy/Security access to all folders and drives. I have toggled these as well with no success. I have also optimized my catalog. I reset LR each time.

I managed to import a JPG from my desktop once as well as an NEF file but it wasn't a normal import, I couldn't repeat the task, and the NEF file only showed up in the Library folder after I looked (i.e. I wasn't informed that it had imported though it had). I haven't been able to import anything from my portable HD.

I also tried opening in Rosetta and it has made no difference.

Happy to provide any other useful information to help resolve this.

Thanks!

Please start a new thread, and describe your problem completely. People will be happy to help you in the new thread. Be sure to tell us in the new thread the software that you are using, the version NUMBER (not words like "latest") and the version NUMBER of your operating system.

Possible fix

  1. Bring up your Import screen
  2. Change the Import method from Add to copy
  3. Over on the right side, in the Destination Panel, ignore whatever is listed for drive and folder, assume that that info is incorrect, change to a known hard drive, a known folder.
  4. Change Import method back to Add
  5. Attempt one import.

Why?

  • In the Import screen, the destination listed is brought over from most recent import involving Copy, Copy as DNG, or Move
  • If the hard drive and/or or folder previously used was moved/renamed/deleted outside of LrC, then the destination will be incorrect until changed by the user.
  • While an error should appear, at least after clicking Import, it may or may not be occurring
  • And while using Add should not involve the destination, it still appears to fail just as if you used Copy.
  • Cannot prove this

relates to an oddity where the destination listed in a previous import using Copy, Copy as DNG, was moved/deleted/renamed outside of LrC. And for some reason does not cause a useful error message, and even odder, affects Add.

Thanks for the tip but it still didn't work. Any other ideas/suggestions?

I don't believe I've changed anything with my external HD nor file structure.

Hi, I have a 16 inch Macbook Pro running on Ventura 13.2.1 and a monthly subscription of Lightroom Classic 12.2. I shoot and download photos from my Nikon system cameras without problems and the same goes for photos in HEIC format taken by my iPhone 8. However, when I try to download short film clips from my iPhone 8 in .mov HEVC format, the film clips often become invisible in the LRC thumbnail grid and hence not importable. The “lost” clips are about 20-60 seconds long – others of the same sizes are visible and can be imported. Is the HEVC format unsuitable for import into LRC?? Is there a way around this without exporting from Apples Photos without loosing date and times of the photos?

All the best /Anders

@defaultv6nvd70zzwdm you should check out the following Adobe Help file as provides information on how HEVC files.
