Unexpected error opening catalog

Help!

I have an issue that began after I got a notification that my catalog couldn't be opened because it was being used by another application. I followed the FAQs and moved the .lock file to the recycle bin. Now, I get an error message that reads, "Unexpected errro opening catalo."

What should I do?

    "...being used by another application..."

This indicates that the Catalog was not closed down in the proper manner at the last use. The usual fix is to delete the file with the file-type suffix of .LOCK  then try to re-open the Catalog. (the .LOCK file should only exist when the Catalog is open.)

    "Unexpected error opening catalog."

This is more serious and suggests that there is catalog corruption- which possibly caused the .LOCK file to be left in situ.

The usual answer is to restore a Catalog from a recent Catalog backup.
