"Update folder location" doesn't move pictures on the hard disk (v14.0.1)

1) Using the "update folder location" in the Library module doesn't move the pictures.

Pictures appear in the new place (in the Library), but only Previews, which are marked with an exlamation mark. Nothing moved on the disk. No question mark on the folder name. The name of the moved folder doesn't appear in the new location (neither in the Library, nor in the Explorer), only picture previews in Library.
2) When moving the folder using "click and drop", the folder and pictures are moved to the new location, but the folder name remains also in its prévious location (in Lightroom Library only), with a question mark and 0 picture.

Thanks for your help.

You misunderstand this function. 'Update Folder Location' is not supposed to move anything. What is does is 'relink' Lightroom to a different location of the same folder. In practice it means you can use it as follows: suppose you want to move some folder to a different drive. For safety reasons you copy that folder to the other drive (outside of Lightroom, using Windows Explorer), rather than move it. When you start Lightroom, it will still show the original folder, as expected. So now you can use 'Update Folder Location' and select the copy on the other drive. Lightroom will now show the folder in its new location. When that is done, you can safely delete the original folder (again outside Lightroom, because Lightroom no longer shows it).

Thanks for your quick answer.

I was convinced it worked like that in the past !

May be because when there is a question mark near the folder name, the contextual menu proposes "Find the missing folder", while when not, the option proposed is "Update folder location"... And then, I concluded it was moving the folder...

Point taken.

Yes, correct. "Find Missing Folder" is basically the same menu as "Update Folder Location", depending on whether the folder is missing or not.
