Update incorrect file creation date based on metadata?

We downloaded a bunch of photos from iCloud, which, frustratingly, changes the creation date to the date the photo is downloaded.

However, metadata remains correct.

Is there a way within Lightroom to correct the capture/creation date based on the metadata?

thanks!

You can't change the creation date of the file. This is as it should be the date/time the file was created. Lightroom uses the capture time that is embedded in the file's metadata so there really is no problem if the file creation date is different. If you want the file creation date to change so it looks in finder like it was created when the image was taken instead of when you exported a copy out of Photos, follow the instructions here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b33ir6FZMlY . Again you don't need this for anything as Lightroom and other photo editing apps use the exif date/time and ignore the file creation date.

Lightroom Classic (are you talking about Lightroom Classic? you said Lightroom) lets you change the capture date/time manually, I don't think it allows you to do it via metadata. Metadata->Edit Capture Time

To do it more automatically based on metadata, I think you'd need a (freeware) program such as ExifTool
