I have LR4.4 and am looking to move to the current LR?Photoshop paradigm. Will my current catelogs work? I'm inclined to unstall the old version after the new one is in. any thoughts?

Assuming you mean Lightroom Classic (and not the new cloud based Lightroom), you your catalog can be upgraded to the current version. Uninstall is optional, but really, once you verify everything works in the upgraded catalog, there's no reason to keep Lightroom 4 around.

Before you move, there has been some reported issues wtih Mac OS system versions:

Where do you sit with that Dennis?

Tony I am awaiting to know more info about his system to know if he can upgrade his system to run Lightroom Classic 9.1  advising if he may need to move to a new computer or just upgrade his existing system. Lightroom 4 is very dated version so I suspect he may not be able to accommodate LR Classic on the existing. I have upgraded to LR Classic on my existing iMac 2015 to macOS 10.15.3 and LR Classic 9.1 without problems.

Absolutely, Lightroom Classic can copy your Catalog and create a new Catalog compatible with Lightroom Classic the latest version. You first need to let us know the details of your OS. See the screen capture for the macOS minimum requirements. Users can then offer procedures to carry out the upgrade without problems.

In addition to my earlier post I would recommend that you first create a backup Catalog and save to an external drive or storage before performing any upgrade to your OS or to Lightroom.
