Upgrade to Lightroom Classic 15.0.1. : problems with new catalog

Today I was informed that my Adobe Photography (20GB) monthly subscription will increase in price significantly at the next annivesary, and that I could maintain the same price by concerting to an annual subscription. I did that successfully. But when I looked at the available apps in the new subscription I found that it only contained Lightroom, the web-based app. Checking my Lightroom Classic installation I found that it was working correctly, so far at least, but that there was a new update Lightroom Classic 15.0.1. There was no warning that that this update would create a new catalogue which is not compatible with previous catalogues. I successfully updated the Classic software to version 15.0.1.  but then learned that this new catalog had been created and the old catalogs were contained in a zip file. I decided to update the catalog, as I could not see - or understand - what was the alternative.

I can now no longer "find" my photographs in Lightroom Classic, nearly all the thumbnails have the dreaded ! in the upper right hand corner.

What do I need to do to "find" my historic photographs? Does it involve expanding the zip files of the old catalogs to set up a second catalog to apply to these old photographs?

I have not had this problem in the past when adopting a new catalogue.

And help will be gratefully received...

@johns490623 , You stated " There was no warning that that this update would create a new catalogue which is not compatible with previous catalogues. I successfully updated the Classic software to version 15.0.1."

When you upgraded from V 14. X to V 15.x , you would have received a warning that your Catalog would be upgraded and a Copy of your V 14 Catalog would be saved in a folder with the name Old Catalogs ( or words to that effect )

If you had selected to Automatically update LrC that may the reason why you are not aware. It is recommended that you turn off that option.

@johns490623  Before your current subscription ends, change your PAYMENT METHOD to 'Yearly' instead of 'Monthly' and you will stay with the Photography Plan 20GB AT THE SAME annual price, with LrC, Ps, Lr, exactly as you are using now.

Do not allow Adobe support to change you to a new plan.

This information is to be found in this link-

If you changed the payment plan so you are paying annually, rather than changing the software plan you are subscribed to,  then Lightroom Classic is still a part of your subscription.

If you did the upgrade of the catalog and it appears to be a new catalog, then it has upgraded the wrong catalog. You want to use your operating system's search feature to search your hard disk(s) for any files with name that ends with .LRCAT (your catalog is probably the biggest such file that is found) and then double-click on that to open it (and you may have to upgrade it as well). This is not the .ZIP file.
