Upgrading LR AND OSX

I'm an off and on hobbyist user of LR and am currently running LR  5.2.  I run it on an iMac running OSX Yosemite and am considering an upgrade to at least Sierra.  I know I would have to get LR 6 in order to do this but wondered if there are many practical and/or significant differences between LR 5 and 6.  If I choose to stay with LR5, what's the latest OSX version that 5 runs on?

Thanks for any input.

There certainly have been problems reported with OSX High Sierra and Lightroom 5.

I believe that LR 5 runs fine under Sierra. A more thorough search of this forum and the internet regarding this issue is advised.

If you upgrade to LR 6.13, or Lightroom Classic CC (sometimes called LR 7), you should not have problems with High Sierra.

Regarding your question about practical differences between LR 5 and LR 6 and LR 7 — yes there are many new features above LR 5, you should be able to find this information at lightroomqueen.com.

Thanks for the information.  After reading over the many new features in LR 6, I'm still mulling over whether or not they would be something I would use and/or find helpful.  My Mac is mid 2011 model with an AMD Radeon HD 6970M graphics card and 1 GB of dedicated GDDR5 memory I'm not sure performance would improved much over LR 5.

Wait ... your question regarding upgrading is about performance? This wasn't mentioned earlier. There is not likely to be any performance improvement given your hardware by upgrading to LR 6 or LR 7.
