Upgrading LR4 and PS CS6 and moving to New mac...HELP!!!

HI

Advice pls.

I have a Mid 2011 Mac running on High Sierra and I currently have LR4 and PS CS6.

 

I want to buy a new Mac and these versions of LR and PS won't then work- hence me still using High Sierra til now.

What I need to know is what order should I make the move to a new Mac and when to get the new CC software.

At some point I need to download the new LR etc- to the old or new Mac?

How will I get my LR4 catalogue over to the new MAC if LR4 stops working when I upgrade the OS on the old Mac???

Any help on how and when to upgrade the Adobe software woul dbe most helpful- thanks.

The order doesn't matter. You need to install a current version of Lightroom Classic and Photoshop on your new Mac when you get it. You need to copy the Lightroom 4 catalog file and photos from the old Mac to the new Mac. When you have done both, you ready to launch the new Lightroom Classic on your new Mac by opening the Lr 4 catalog file (you can double-click on it to open it).

This is simply copying the correct file using your operating system, probably you will need an external HD to move the file to the new computer (but you could also do it via "the cloud"). A working version of Lightroom or Lightroom Classic is not required to do this.

Thank you- that is so helpful. One more question- at the moment, most of my photos are on an external hard drive (but in Lightroom) as I am concerned that my old Mac is going fail- how can I make sure Lightroom Classic sees my hard drive photos that are part of the catalogue too pls? Thx

I think that all you have to do is plug the External HD into the new computer, and (as long as the drive name hasn't changed), your Lightroom Classic catalog will recognize these photos without problem.
