Question

"Use Smart Previews (...) for editing" still reads RAWs

Hello,

I use "Use Smart Previews instead of originals for editing" yet Lightroom still seems to read originals for both develop and library. The problem is the original RAW files reside on high latency network drive and whenever the drive is connected Lightroom slows to a crawl. Smart Previews are rendered of course. When the drive is disconnected everything works as expected (ie. fast).

Is there any way to restrict Lightroom access to original files to when it is necessary only?

Lightroom reads the original raw file if you zoom in to 100%, for obvious reasons. Perhaps that is when you experience this? Also make sure that you do not automatically write changes to XMP, because those will be written into a sidecar file that is stored in the same folder as where the original raw file is located, or into the header of the original file in case of DNG or any RGB type of file (TIFF, JPEG).

May I request response from Adobe support here?
