Question

Using OIS in lightroom mobile for RAW

Hi!

I sadly found out half a year ago when investigating this, that IOS10 doesn't support optical image stabilization for RAW in it's APIs, because they consider stabilization to be a whole together with hw and sw solutions. Also OIS is not active when shooting a flash image (even in the native camera app).

My question would be if this has changed in the IOS11, is it a feature that will be implemented, because I love to shoot raw, but when things get darker I revert to the native app and shoot 1/4th sec shutter speed images rather than 1/15-1/20 in raw.

Also I would ask if this is also the case with android smartphones, such as Galaxy S8? Or there, LR can use OIS and flash, everything together for raw images (and for HDR RAW)?

Thank You!

best regards, István

Its a shame that it does not have OIS or Flash when shooting. Based on another post on the Apple API website, an Apple staff member notes that you can use OIS with RAW, and cites the function call. It would be great if Adobe could update their camera to support this - both flash and OIS.

Hi István,

I've just tested it with the iPhone with iOS 11 installed, and the problem is still there. At least from my experience. The RAW photos taken using Lightroom at 1/4 were blurry. I've tried few times but was not able to take the any sharp photo at 1/4. On the other hand, when switched to the native camera app, the first photo I've made was sharp and the result was much better than from Lightroom@RAW.

That's sad and it is serious limitation.

I've also tried it, but it's a limitation of IOS10, they cannot do anything about it. And even if it changed for version 11, it could be that LR is not using the latest API, but I didn't see anything related, so there's only a low chance. But I don't know if the case is the same for android. A friend of mine has a note8, lowest shutter speed is 1/10 and there's no RAW HDR (yet). To have everything, I would love to take hdr raw pictures with OIS even with using flash (slow syncing), maybe with setting the minimum shutterspeed myself so that it would still be auto, but using the lowest shutter speed of eg. 1/4, and raising the ISO from there.
