Using the Mask icon in LrC

In LrC I click on the Mask icon ... when I click on the brush and go to paint everythings seems fine.  When I want to lighten/darken that area there is no eposure (etc) slider ... I know it's somewhere!  An easy fix for sure but I've tried all I know ... Thanks for your help!
