Question

Ways to help find missing photos in a publish collection

I use rcTreesync and jfCollectionPublisher. And it's driving me nuts that a missing photo just drives a publish error message  'Can I use the smart preview' without telling me which publish collection or image is missing. I have hundreds of collections which I then have to scroll through, wait for LR to work out what it's republishing (all of it every time), and then scroll down to the the bottom to look for items for deletion.  Does anyone have a workaround.? With treesync there is a log but you have to wait for the whole publish to finish before you can start messing around. Not sure what I'm looking for in jf's logs. Any hints? Anyone got a workaround that changes the LR error message in their toolbox or any other ways to pin this down better?

"a publish error message  'Can I use the smart preview' without telling me which publish collection or image is missing."

The menu command Library > Find All Missing Photos will show you all photos that LR thinks are missing.

Thanks John. Problem is I have a lot of them. Thousands since I stupidly deleted hard drive space. I am nervous to remove them in case publish collections then remove them from the hard drive at the next publish. (It happened once before), and nervous to remove them in the totally vain hope that I find 9 year old photos on some spare drive.

I've tried keywording them all 'MissingOriginals' and then having a smart collection for metadata contains MissingOriginals and source publish collection contains XXX but it just doesn't show them all... I fixed all of the ones shown - but now it still stops during publishing.

For more flexibility in searching, you can use the Any Filter plugin's Filter command, using the Available and Published Collections columns:

In the Available column, "false" means "missing".
