With Adobe Photoshop Lightoom 6 expected to be released later this year, what new featured would you like to see in the new version ?.

Isn't it about time this thread was closed, and a new one opened for LR7?

A way to access the EXIF info via mouseover (ala Aperture) instead of having to go back to the library module.

Even better: Combine the Library and Develop modules. It's stupid that they are separate. Just combine them (and their tabs) and make all the closed tabs smaller to make more room. They are stupidly cartoon-large as it is.

Also… improve the print module. Study the one in Aperture. Notice the intelligence displayed in autosizing things based on paper size without having to make print profiles for every damn time you want to change paper, orientation or borders.

Lastly: Dear GOD fix the Web panel. Get rid of the Flash and replace with HTML5 please. Wake up and smell the 2014 already. No one uses it because it's rubbish. How many websites have YOU seen made from the Web panel? Thought so.

EXIF Data? Have you tried the the [ I ] key for information? You can customize it and it holds two screens worth of info and doesn't require return to the Library.

Personally I think it is quite pointless to compare Aperture to Lightroom as it is a dead product and it's workflow was almost non-existent as Lightroom has a different modes (not STUPID) for each step in image processing. Also there are lens profile and geometry corrections in Lightroom, CA correction, etc. etc and, of course, Aperture was dumped for iPhoto because of the following statistics:

Among photographic pros using the Mac,

In 2007 Lightroom was nearly twice as popular as Aperture

In 2008 it was nearly three times as popular

In 2009 it’s approaching four times as popular

    By the numbers:                                  2007       2008      2009

    Photoshop Camera Raw plug-in           66.5%     62.2%    57.9%

    Lightroom                                          23.6%     35.9%    37.0%

    Aperture                                              5.5%      7.5%      6.3%

    On the Mac platform only:

    Lightroom                                           26.6%     40.4%    44.4%

    Aperture                                             14.3%     14.6%    12.5%

Of course there is one specific thing I would like to see added apart from HTML web pages which are there:

LEVELS: Would love to see levels included along with curves.

The multiple monitor support could use some developer TLC. Currently LR only supports one additional monitor. I have an iMac with 2x 27" NEC's outboard, I could definitely use a Loupe monitor in both portrait and landscape on color calibrated displays while the main interface ran on the iMac screen. And LR5 is incapable of recognizing my current 27" NEC in portrait orientation as a legitimate display for the second monitor. Every time LR5 launches I get the second display window on top of the main interface on the iMac screen. I have to move it over to the portrait monitor, and resize it every time. If I make the mistake of selecting Window/Secondary Display/Show, LR unhelpfully puts the secondary display fullscreen on the landscape NEC, exactly where I don't want it. Talk about frustrating.

I have asked for better multiple monitor support since before LR3 came out, along with several other users. I guess feature requests sometimes get acknowledged and other times do not.

I will be really disappointed if there isn't

    * some kind of laptop mode. I shouldn't have to use an iPhone or iPad to do PC work with Lightroom.

    * Facial recognition. It is embarassing that LR still doesn't have this.

Good morning Captain obvious! Of course it can RUN on a laptop (and even OS X Laptops! You forgot about those!) but I'm talking about being mobile with my Surface Pro 3. My main library sits on my workstation. I should be able to take my Surface Pro 3 out and do all of the same stuff I can do with Lightroom Mobile on iPad on my SP3. But I can't. I am still scratching my head at how the iPad got a mobile review mode before PCs -- something that has been requested since the early Lightroom betas!

It looks like we are going to have to wait until Lightoom 6 for the "Modify Graduated and Radial Filter masks with a brush"  that are included the Adobe Photoshop Camera RAW 8.5 plug-in for CC .  For landscape Photographers like myself who utilize the Graduated filter on a regular basis these are likely to warrant the upgrade costs alone.

    Features:

    • Modify Graduated and Radial Filter masks with a brush:
      • After adding or selecting a Graduated or Radial Filter instance, click the new ‘Brush’ mode (next to existing ‘New’ and ‘Edit’ mode buttons) to reveal brush controls that allow you to modify the selected mask.
      • Use the ‘Brush +’ and ‘Brush -’ icon buttons in the brush controls pane to add to or erase from the selected mask.
      • Press the ‘Clear’ button to remove all brush modifications from the currently selected mask.
      • When a Graduated or Radial Filter instance is selected, Shift-K can be used to enter and leave brush modification mode.
      • For more information, check out this video here
    • Mask visualization is now available for the Graduated and Radial Filters. Use the Mask checkbox at the bottom of the Local Corrections pane or press ‘Y’ to toggle the mask overlay.
    • Added Per-Panel Preview default toggle button
      • If the current panel’s settings are not the ACR defaults, clicking the new Per-panel Toggle Button will reset the panel to the ACR defaults.
      • Clicking the button again will restore the previous settings.
      • This is a standalone feature, separate from the new Preview controls.
      • The changes are applied to the main view; if you have both the Before and After panes visible, changes will appear in the After panel.

Yes it’s a nice feature for landscape photographers. I do have the Photography Plan and can use the plus and minus brushes with the filters but it’s obviously a more complicated workflow. I think all the emphasis in LR5.5 has been on mobile. In fact at the presentation in New York yesterday, the point was made that iPhone images on Flickr outnumber all digital cameras combined.

So it looks like we have a period to wait for full integration between the two apps which should be the main selling point for the Photography Plan. I really want to do all raw editing in LR and only go into Photoshop for pixel editing, layers masks etc.

Can adobe please build a Lightroom 6 capable of maximizing the power of the New mac Pro? i.e. Using all the cores?!?!  Every bench test seems to have the MacPro performing either no better or in many cases worse than the iMac due to it's lack of multi-core threading. Please build a version to fix this! I just bought a Mac Pro

Criket Stewart you might have opened a bag of worms there.  Many of us want this and GPU acceleration but the LR developers seem unable or unwilling to do this ..... apparently it is fast enough already ...... Lol

If I remember correctly, Eric Chan (of Adobe) said recently that Lr5.5 would be out soon - in the feedback forum.

It makes sense: ACR 8.5 was released recently.

If no Lr5.5 to match, it would be a first - right?

Anyway, we'll all see very shortly, so hardly seems worth speculating about to me - whatever...

For a Pro editing tool we need:

    - Color ranges

    - Adjustment Layers

    - Film glow, diffusion effect

    - More Clarity options

    - Better grain engine

    - Better sharpness engine

    - Better Auto Mask

    - Content Aware engine

    - Color filters (warm-cool, etc.)

    - Speed issues fix

Adobe already provides a "pro editing tool" - Photoshop.

That's not what Lightroom is about, and the kinds of gimmicky filter options you aspire to have no place in a Raw converter.

"We" do not need most of that in Lightroom...

Lightroom has never been, nor was it intended to be, a mere “raw converter.” You're using the wrong software. Oops.

I would like to have a Face Recognition system added - a good one.

I like that LR5 has a Book module, but I wish it was at the same level as the other book module offered by so many companies. I can think of two major pain points for now:

    - Need to be able to create different types of borders around pictures

    - Need to be able to move cells around; even create a new template from scratch

Software vouchers have posted the following statement on their website.  It pretty much sums up my suspicions and fears regarding Lightroom 6

With the surprising lack of the Lightroom 5.5 release candidate that we were all expecting to be released with the Camera Raw 8.5 from a few days ago, we have a strong suspicion that Lightroom 6 will be released at Adobe’s Creative Cloud relaunch/refresh launch event on June 16th (no LR beta expected this time as we have typically seen in previous releases!). Lightroom has become an important part of CC and the popular Photoshop+Lightroom subscription plan. However, based on what we’ve heard from several sources close to Adobe, we have a strong feeling, to our disappointment, that Lightroom 6 will be subscription-only. So if this is true, no upgrade will be available to version 6 unless you decide to pay a monthly fee for it. Adobe’s betting big on subscriptions and investors seem to like it (as seen in the stock price the two years). The new Lightroom for iPad app is also for CC subscribers only so this is probably just a prelude of what’s to come. Lightoom’s competition has dwindled as it appears that their largest competitor to Lightroom, Aperture, won’t be releasing any new versions anytime soon.

Quote from Tom Hogarty (Lightroom Project Manager) on May 6, 2013:

    Q. Will Lightroom become a subscription only offering after Lightroom 5?

    A. Future versions of Lightroom will be made available via traditional perpetual licenses indefinitely.

Of course that doesn't negate Adobe from offering two Lightroom products with different feature sets (stripped down Elements boxed product and CC product with more features). Just a guess.
