Why can't I edit Lightroom Classic file in Photoshop?

I made preliminary edit in Lightroom Classic then clicked 'edit in Adobe Photoshop'.  Image remains in Lightroom BUT Selective Tool appears on left of screen.  Closed both Lightroom Classic and Photoshop.  Reloaded Photoshop then Lightroom Classic with the intention of disabling Home Screen in Photoshop Preferences, as per instructions on your forum page.  This bug has appeared out of nowhere as I was able to edit in Photoshop and Nik filters up to an hour ago. Have had problems in the recent past with the Lightroom/Photoshop interface and thought the bug had been fixed.  Have just attempted to open Photoshop but only the Selective Tool appears.  How can I fix, or is this something Adobe needs to do?

There is a bug, causing some trouble with Lightroom. The workaround is to start first Photoshop, than "Edit in Photoshop".

When I have problems like that, I reboot my machine to be sure that there are no bad states and memory and program chunks left over.

I have been hearing about this from others, but have not experienced it myself and I go from LR to PS all the time. Abambo's suggestion is a great one, reboot the computer!   Also, you did not mention which versions of Lightroom classic and Photoshop you are using. And also what platform, Mac or PC. I am on Mac with the latest versions and I have not seen this issue.
