Why do I suddenly need a verification code to open Lightroom Classic?

I can't open Lightroom Classic without signing in and then having to wait for a verification code. This is a recent development. Why is it necessary?

Mac M1, running OS Monterey

Thank you for taking the trouble to respond. It must have been a temporary glitch, as things seem to be back to normal now.

What's the status of your Adobe Creative Cloud desktop app? That should be permanently active and logged in, after which the supporting apps such as LrC and PS will not need continued reactivation.
