Why would jpg file only open in Camera Raw and not Photoshop?

Question

I'm not the creator, but have an InDesign file and Links.

Some of the Links are behaving oddly.

If I look in Bridge at .jpg file it shows the Camera Raw Edit Sliders icon top left.

If I try to open the .jpg file in Photoshop it always Opens in Camera RAW. I can't see any ACR edits at my end.

I'm told that this file was EPSON scan to TIFF then edits in Lightroom circa2016, then a jpg produced.

The TIFF no longer exists, and I don't know if there were XMP sidecar files.

Does anyone have aqny idea why would .jpg file only open in Camera Raw and not Photoshop

Is there something I could look at in Bridge info?

It's in the file header. Sidecars are only for proprietary raw file formats (nef, cr3, arw...) Lightroom keeps it all in its catalog, unless you instruct it to write to files.

You set this in ACR preferences.

The default setting is that jpegs that already contain ACR metadata, will continue to open through ACR. If it does not contain ACR metadata, it goes straight to Photoshop.

You can change that setting to either disable jpeg support, in which case it always goes straight to Photoshop - or to always open jpegs through ACR.
