Question

(Windows) Takes 1 Minute or more to move between images

Since upgrading to Lightroom Classic 13.3, the performance has become extremely slow.
Various operations have become very slow; for example, it takes about a minute to move to the Develop module or to move between images in the Develop module.
There were no issues when using Lightroom Classic 13.2.
Is there anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

I have about 200,000 images in my catalog, so that might be one of the reasons, but since it was working fine with version 13.2, I suspect that there might be some degradation associated with upgrading to 13.3.

I created a new catalogue, cleared the cache, set GPU usage to auto. Nothing. As soon as I start working on a picture, the memory used goes to 10 gb and lightroom slows so much it is unusable. Adobe what is going on?!?!?!

Same issue, has anyone got a response or help from support on this or has it just been silent??? I have another thread going and don't see any replies from staff or support.

I have talked to tech-support over 20 times in the last two months with no resolution to my sink or performance issues. I have another call scheduled tonight in a couple of hours with no hope that they're going to be able to resolve anything at this point. If the issue goes beyond their prompt script, then all they can do is offer up suggestions with no real knowledge of whether it will work or not.

Had the same issues. Specifically, I noticed that LRc was working sor of ok, until I applied a mask to one of the images. Then everything, for all the images in any folder, develop or library module starting to work horrendously slow. Updated Windows (10), updated GPU driver (3060), nothing worked.

Then I removed all the plug-ins (I'm not using any anyways). And now the LrC it's working fine.

Hope it helps.

Spoke to soon, sorry. As soon as I open masking section everything slows down. Even just opening a new radial filter takes forever. And after that move, all other tasks for any other image (especially zoom-in-out, cropping) moves into snail mode.

Add my system to this list of slow LrC 13.3.1 users: Mac Mini M2 running Sonoma 14.5.

Accessing menu commands, clicking on the next image in the Develop module, adjusting crop dimensions, and updating keywords, so far are painfully slow operations compared to previous LrC versions.

Updated to 13.3.1 - For reference I have just over 800k images in my catalog.  The update prvovided speed improvements, BUT (it's a big but) I can not rate, flag, apply user presets to edits, export files, batch process files, raname files...plus whatever else is not working.  In other words it's still a mess.  My sync issue will have to wait.  I need to be able to deliver edited images first.

@walstonphoto If you have sync issues, there's a good chance that's what's causing the performance issues. So when you've got a gap in your schedule, this might help: https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/p-regarding-sync-issues-in-13-3-and-removal-of-sync-activity-in-preferences/m-p/14660606#M367709

Thanks for the link.  All my logs were submitted to Adobe engineers on May 28th in relation to the sync issues (waiting to hear back for them).   Right now I have sync turned off for my deivce apps and Classic.

Updated to Lrc Classic 13.3.1
The performance issue seems to be resolved but I only did a quick check for now.
I've tested switching back and forth from Grid to Develop in varoius folders that were extremely slow in the previous version. Switching from modes and between photos is faster than recently. I'll confirm after I'll have a chance to work a bit longer.

Will be great to hear, Frank.

For ref, about how many images are tracked in your catalog? I've seen cases with (hundreds to few thousands) being okay with 13.3. Seems ones (like me) with 100s of thousands had much less luck.

@E. WilsonSo far so good with 13.3.1 version. No dramatic delays and freezes like in the previous version yet.
Around 150 to 200k photos in the .lrcat file

I am experiencing the same performance degradation on 13.3. I didn't see those on 13.2. As described by other users above, even switching between photos can take 4-5 seconds or even longer. But sometimes it happens quickly.  I have shut down syncing to the cloud and also shut down writing of metadata to .xmp and jpg, etc. Please issue a fix to this as soon as possible. Thanks

I saw that there seems to be a v.13.3.1 now. Has anyone dared to upgrade and see if it's improved?

Saw that too and interested in others' experiences. Didn't see any perf or catalog mentions in the short list of fixes, though, so I haven't tried it.

Couple follow-ups:

1. I rolled back to 13.2. (Lost a few catalog/metadata updates, but fortunately hadn't done a lot since upgrading.) So far performance seems fine as it was before the catastrophic 13.3.

2. From a few other forums & feedbacks I've seen, this could be correlated to LARGER catalog sizes. (Hint: Adobe - do real-world size/scale regression testing.)

I work in SW, and specifically in data/database related for most of my career. This could be, and is consistent with, something about their larger Catalog changes that missed some key performance aspects - like a database index or a newly non-optimal query. Tons of operations would relate to querying the catalog, and all of those seem painfully slow.

(That doesn't seem to explain all of it, but I wonder if could be related. Just in case any Adobe sw-eng folks read these.)

Great point.

I'm one of those photogs that has their entire body of work in one catalog. 500k+ images.  On 13.2, my catalog file was around 12GB. When I upgraded my catalog to work with 13.3, I noticed the catalog file jumped to a little over 20GB. Something about the upgrade seems to have made the LCat file chonky.

I have a tinfoil hat theory. Adobe is prioritizing apps for the masses instead of serious pro photographers. They created Lightroom (non-Classic) for the prosumer. This update will start a phase out of LRc for adobe. It makes sense from a business side of things. They can sell a lot more subscriptions to consumers and prosumers, so why waste time on LRc if it only gets them a small percentage of subscriptions.

same here. Extremely slow and working with fully updated drivers. Had to roll back to 13.2 because is was unworkable.

having similar issues with my iMac (Intel / 40GB Ram) when trying to pick/reject images and moving images between collections. LR is very laggy & had to wait several images for it to respond. No issue with LRc 13.2.
