.xmp files not being read after Lightroom Classic upgrade

After upgrading to a new PC running Windows 11, Lightroom Classic v13 no longer reads old .xmp files. I have a decade of .xmp files saved for thousands of images and I can not access my old edits. All images open up as unedited raw files. What could be the issue?

 

I have since turned on "Automatically write changes into XMP" however I can not say for certain if this was set on my old computer. Regardless, Lightroom always created .xmp files that I could access even if this was not previously set. (which I'm not sure if it was or wasn't) 

 

Is there any way to tell Lightroom Classic v13 to read these old .xmp files? Can anyone help?

    Dennis gave the right answer for Classic. You can also try to open the image in Camera Raw from Photoshop or Adobe Bridge. If your workflow relies on reading and writing xmp files, you might be better off using Bridge instead of Lightroom Classic as the xmp files in Classic if you enable the automatic writing are only a backup and Classic stores the actual edits in its catalog file. Bridge using camera raw uses the xmp files as the main storage location of edits.

      Note, that Lightroom Classic by default reads and writes to the Catalog file, there is an option that you can select to 'Automatically write changes to XMP" However there is no option to have Lightroom to Automatically read information from the XMP file. Lightroom Classic will read info from XMP  if there is one present at import to the Catalog.
