Access denied when trying to open subfolder

I just downloaded LR Classic.  I am having trouble tyring to access the sub folders on my external hard drive.
I can access the subfolders when I choose Cloud.  But I would rather access subfolders Locally  on my external hard drive.  When I clicked on the EHD, i got an "access denied message.. I do not have permission" message.  I went into Apple Settings> Privacy Security> and clicked on LR and saved the changes.  But that did not solve the problem.  What can I do?

Sounds like you did not download Lightroom Classic, but Lightroom. Lightroom Classic does not have cloud and local options, it only works with local images. I moved this thread to the correct forum. Make sure Lightroom has 'full disk access' in MacOS privacy & security. See this thread (it is about Lightroom Classic, but applies to Lightroom as well): https://community.adobe.com/t5/lightroom-classic-discussions/quick-tips-how-to-give-full-disk-access-to-lightroom-classic-on-macos/td-p/12913413
