Question

Adding keywords to lightroom heirarchy

Can I type in a new keyword and assign it at thet time to a previously established heirarchy in the "Click here to add keywords" box without having to drag it from the keyword list? My specific problem is this. I have a Heirarchy called "Birds" and many birdnames listed there. Now I have a new bird "Western Meadowlark" But because I have >1500 keywords, if I just type in the name of this bird, I can't get to the new keyword to drag it into the Birds Heirarchy. Thanks for your help

You might try typing  [Western_Meadowlark < Birds]   Note the < character!   (Child < Parent)

This will add Western_Meadowlark as a child KW under Birds.

But you must be careful to type the existing 'Parent' KW correctly, or any difference and you create a new KW heirarchy. (eg. "bird" would be wrong)

Personally I find it easier to work in the Keyword 'List' panel and [Right-click] a parent KW for {Create keyword tag inside 'Parent'} to Add a child KW. Also set the option to [Add to selected photos]. This method I know where my new KWs are placed in a heirarchy, and the KW has been added to photos.

.
