Adobe Lightroom mobile on ipad, manage storage

Hi,

I've been using lightroom CC on a mac for a few years. Now I'm thinking of switching to using an ipad to make the setup more couch-friendly.
I haven't bought an ipad yet, wondering how much storage I need. Is it the case that the photos I upload via the iPad are only stored in the cloud, or will all the photos also be stored locally on the iPad?
Can I choose which photos are stored locally on the iPad, and which photos are stored in the cloud?
I don't need to have access to absolutely all the photos from the ipad all the time.

    Trying to figure out how much storage you'll need on the new iPad really means knowing how you intend to use it. Obviously if you only want it to see existing images in the cloud and edit those, you may not need a huge amount of internal storage, especially if you make use of the ability to primarily store Smart Previews locally on the iPad. However, if you intend to use is as the ingestion point for all new photo captures, then you'll likely need more internal storage. Some people I know use their iPad exclusively for ingesting all their camera photos that they take while travelling, and because of the likely "spotty" nature of their internet connection while on the road that dictates in their case at least the 1TB model, plus external storage for making temporary backups as well. Obviously when the new photos are uploaded to the cloud, the temporary backups can be discarded (and the iPad originals swapped out for smart previews), but they are essential until that sync upload is complete.

     

    It's probably for that reason that some users will eschew the iPad and use a lightweight laptop instead.

    Hi @Halvor27926492jo9y,

    On LrM iOS, you have an option to download smart previews of your photos that are reduced resolution, editable proxies of your photos (vs full size originals). Using them reduces download size and saves space on your iOS device.

    You could also choose to download original per a photo (by selecting "Get this original" option from cloud menu) , or per album (by choosing Store Locally option).
