Adobe Lightroom Problems with Clearing things out, Super enhance and Uploading to Cloud...

I find Lightroom startling frustrating, but I would like to see if I can take advantage of the Super Resolution feature because it is built in and I would like to compare it to other commercial products. My initial results seemed promising, but I am unable to get the program to consistently do it if at all. I go it to work a few times off and on and now it just doesn't;t work no matter what I import. It seem to be stuck generating previews as well.

If someone can help and point me in the right direction on the following things:

1) I want to clear out my albums or anything the program touches without having it mark things for deletion. I want the program to forget things whenever I want to. Now it seems to want to retain every file  ever imported and only offers to put them in a holding pattern for eventual deletion.

2) I do not want anything synced to the cloud. It does this automatically. How do I stop it.

3) It just doesn't Super Resolution anything anymore. It did off and on and for a few instances, but now when the option is selected it just ghosts ou the entry and leaves no indication it has done anything (the other files it did Super Res had a DNG on a duplicate thumbnail and the files would appear "stacked(?)" with the number of variations for each file (ib the super res case two). If I looked at them in a card view you could see the DNG super res file and the original file thumbnails side by side.

The very idea that you cannot select the file and select and simply select an option to remove it from program, album, etc. seems absolutely crazy to me. I want to clear out all the abortive test files that I used and just start from scratch.

Thanks for your attention. I don't think the program is behaving properly, but I might be doing something goofy that I cannot fathom. Please help.

You are using the wrong product. Look for Lightroom Classic; this is a local file system focused solution with many of the same features. (In actuality cloud focused is missing some functions that Classic has).

A number of features in the cloud version require the images to have been already uploded to the Adobe servers (such as the Sensai AI automatic photo detection and search).

If Lightroom is frustrating you, maybe Bridge with the Camera Raw plugin would be a better solution. Here's a simple video I recorded for Bridge. https://youtu.be/nMLiZ9zW7Xo

Hi Theresa:

I am using bridge now to start cataloging all of my images and that is
working great. As far as using Super Resolution as you described, it
doesn't seem to work with .png files. I can convert/export to TIFFs, but
another problem is that it doesn't allow you to do batch processing or even
processing on multiple files at once like Lightroom did for me once.

My suspicion is that Lightroom and the Super Resolution features in camera
raw don't like PNGs. I double-checked with my Lightroom files and I did
export a large group of PNGs as TIFs, selected all of those TIFs and it did
create Super Resolution versions as DNGs(?). I can then export those files
at the Super Resolutions. Unfortunately, it won't do this again. I can
still export those original files, but it won't process any new files in
Super Resolution in Lightroom.

At least your video showed me that it seems to be the PNG files it doesn't
like. Also, the program seems to show a weird Generating Preview line that
stood at 5 out of 100 without progressing. This is one of the reasons why I
wanted to flush everything out of Lightroom so I could try and work in
small jobs in case the program was somehow getting confused or a background
process was being hung up.

I like the Super Resolution feature but I am very disappointed that I
cannot get it to work. I was able to convert 48 files in like 2 minutes
when it did work. I am thinking of putting the suite on another computer
and seeing if I can get these files working over there, but I hate fooling
with the subscription license activation and reactivations.

Why can't I just clear out the stuff in Lightroom and try to start over on
the current computer? Why won't Lightroom Super Resolution work on any new
TIF files that I add? I also want to stop it from sending stuff to the
Cloud. Why is that necessary? What is the Generating Preview doing?

Thanks for sending the video over. I have a few hundred files to process,
so it would be nice to just multi-select them and let Super Resolution rip
like I was able to do earlier once before. I may end up doing it one by one
in from Bridge, but that would be very, very sad.

Any thoughts?

Jackie

Sounds like you want to use Lightroom Classic instead of Lightroom. Classic does not upload images to the cloud. You can easily remove images from the Classic catalog after you are done.

I don't know about the limitation with super resolution and png files. I haven't tried it myself.

Deleting an image from an album just removes the image from the album, not all of your photos. You can delete photos from all photos. They will be moved to the trash icon - deleted. They remain for 60 days unless you go in there, select them all and tell LR to permanently delete them.
