AI needs to be recomputed

When using aspects of the "people" mask I can't see the changes live. I have to make a change, click to reconfigure the mask, click again to update the aspects of the mask and then the change is made and I can see if I like it. It's impossible to see the nuances of the photo. 
Also, if I click off the photo and return to it later it requires me to go through the reconfiguring and updates again. For each and every mask I make. 
If I update the people masks then the backgroud mask, the people masks then need updating again. 
Whatever you have done to "update" the AI, it is not good and majorly frustrating.
