Question

AI Sharpen randomly fails with "output too large"

AI Sharpen will randomly fail with an error that reads "output too large". The same image that worked before will fail, and vice versa, with no edits being done in between. Tested with lossless compressed RAWs from both an a7R V and a7R VI. MacOS 27, 16" M5 Max 128GB/8TB MacBook Pro. Lightroom 9.6.

Hey, @Generous_view0D45. Thanks for bringing this up. Is it truly random, or after a certain number of repetitions? Do the image have any prior edits? Are you using AI-Sharpen with Topaz Denoise? We'll monitor for any spike in volume of reports to find any repeatable steps.

    Thanks!

@Sameer K I can't find any repeatable steps to reproduce this. The most I can say is that it seems that some photos are more prone to failing and some photos are more prone to succeeding, and that there seem to be more photos that are prone to succeeding than photos that are prone to failing on my a7R V that I've tested so far, but on my a7R VI, there may (I haven't done extensive testing) be more of a bias towards photos failing. Photos don't seem to alternate states. They're either failure prone or success prone. If failure prone, almost every attempt fails but it randomly may succeed. If they're success prone, they'll consistently succeed but every now and then fail. I'm not sure if there's a link to edits. I know for a fact I have one photo from my a7R VI that succeeded with some edits applied, but no crops. When I tried to process the same photo again, it failed. I also tried maybe 5-10 times again after resetting edits, and they still all failed.

I'm using the AI sharpen button in the detail panel.

Hi @Generous_view0D45, Thank you for the update on this issue. As you know, to reproduce the issue, we will need more information. Could you send some sample images (1 that fails and 1 that succeeds), your system info, a screen recording of the issue, and a numbered list of the exact steps needed to replicate it? You can find your system info by going to Help > System Info, copying and pasting it into a text file, and attaching it here. Thanks! ^CH
