Android App showing obnoxious red notification that I have used 80% storage used

I am enjoying having to look at this annoying red notification icon that I can't turn off because I've used more than 80% of my storage. I have used 16.1GB of 20GB Why does it have to be red? Why does it have to be so prominent? From what I can tell the only way to turn this off is to buy more storage (not happening) or delete photos (which means my storage is effectively 16GB not 20Gb like advertised.
