Hello, I would like to report an issue with “Save copy to device” in Lightroom Mobile for Android.

Device / Platform
My smartphone is an Android phone.
I am using Lightroom Mobile v11.3.1 on my Android smartphone.

Issue
When I open a photo in Lightroom Mobile and choose
Share → Save copy to device,
I get the error message:
“Couldn’t complete export”
and the photo is not saved to my Android device.

What I have already checked

  • My Adobe account is correct.
  • Cloud sync is working properly.
  • The same photos are visible in Lightroom on my laptop.
  • The same photos are also visible in Lightroom Web.
  • My Android phone has enough free storage space.
  • I restarted the phone.
  • I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom.
  • After reinstalling, I signed in again and completed syncing.
  • Use Cellular Data is enabled in Lightroom settings.
  • I force-stopped the app and reopened it.
  • I also cleared the app cache.
  • I tried Store locally for an album, but it also did not work properly.

Comparison test

  • On my Galaxy Tab / Lightroom v11.2.2,
using the same Adobe account and the same cloud photos,
“Save copy to device” works normally.
  • On my Android smartphone / Lightroom v11.3.1,
    under the same conditions,
    I get the error
    “Couldn’t complete export.”

My suspicion
This may be related to a regression or compatibility issue in v11.3.1 affecting Save copy to device / Export to device on Android smartphones.

Request

  • Please confirm whether this is a known issue.
  • Please let me know if there is any workaround.
  • I can provide more details or run additional tests if needed.

Hey, @wise_photo2682. Welcome to the Lightroom Community. Thanks for the detailed post and the additional details.

I've tried to recreate this, and I couldn't. What specific files format are you working on? Were these images imported from the same device? Does the image have specific edits, such as masks, & lens correction?

Please feel free to add a short video showcasing the issue.
    Thanks!

    @Sameer K

    Hello,

I am writing to report an issue I have been experiencing with Lightroom Mobile on Android, specifically involving original file download failure and failure of the “Save copy to device” function. Below is a detailed summary based on the dates and facts I have personally confirmed.

    1. When I first confirmed the issue
I believe this issue had already begun by at least April 22, 2026.

The basis for this is that I personally posted about the issue on Adobe Community on April 22, 2026. The title of my post was:

“Android v11.3.1: ‘Save copy to device’ fails with ‘Couldn’t complete export,’ while v11.2.2 works normally”

This means that as of April 22, 2026, I had already confirmed the following comparison:

    • Lightroom Mobile v11.3.1 on my Android smartphone was showing the problem

    • Lightroom Mobile v11.2.2 on my Galaxy Tab was working normally under the same conditions

    1. Symptoms I had already confirmed as of April 22, 2026
At the time I posted on Adobe Community on April 22, 2026, I had already confirmed the following:

    (1) Smartphone / Android / Lightroom Mobile v11.3.1

    • When I opened a photo and selected “Share → Save copy to device,” I received the error:
      “Couldn’t complete export.”

    • The photo was not saved to my device.

    • The same photo was visible normally in Lightroom Desktop.

    • The same photo was also visible normally in Lightroom Web.

    • Therefore, I concluded that the photo itself was not missing from the cloud.

    • My smartphone had sufficient free storage space.

    • I restarted the phone.

    • I uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom.

    • After reinstalling, I signed in again and allowed syncing to complete.

    • I force-stopped the app and cleared the app cache.

    • Even after all of these steps, the problem continued.

    (2) Galaxy Tab / Lightroom Mobile v11.2.2

    • Same Adobe account

    • Same cloud-stored photos

    • Same workflow and conditions

    • “Save copy to device” worked normally

In other words, as of April 22, 2026, based on my direct comparison:

    • v11.2.2 on my Galaxy Tab was working normally

    • v11.3.1 on my smartphone was not

    1. Additional original download failure I confirmed on April 22, 2026
On the same day, I also confirmed an additional symptom:

    • When I tapped a photo in Lightroom Mobile v11.3.1 on my Android smartphone, Lightroom attempted to download the photo in high resolution and then displayed:
      “Failed to load original.”

This means the issue was not limited to export failure alone.
The failure was already occurring earlier in the workflow, at the original file download stage.

Because of this, I concluded that the issue is not simply an export problem, but is related to Lightroom Mobile on Android failing to properly download the original file from the cloud to my device.

    1. Adobe Community response on April 23, 2026
On April 23, 2026, an Adobe Community Manager replied to my post.

In that reply, I was asked for additional information such as:

    • the file type involved,

    • whether the photo had been imported from the same device,

    • and whether any specific edits such as masking or lens corrections had been applied.

So as of April 23, 2026, I understood that Adobe was at least reviewing the issue and attempting to identify the conditions under which it occurred.

    1. Ongoing problem state after that
After that, I continued to observe the following behavior in Lightroom Mobile on Android:

    • The photo status shows “Synced and backed up”

    • The photo information shows “Smart Preview – Download Original”

    • The original file type is shown as JPG

    • However, Lightroom still shows “Failed to load original”

    • If I choose “Save copy to device,” I still get “Couldn’t complete export”

    • In some cases, I also see “Waiting for settings”

In other words, cloud sync and backup appear to be successful, but original file download and sometimes settings synchronization on the mobile device remain unstable or fail.

    1. Change after my Galaxy Tab was updated on June 16, 2026
Originally, my Galaxy Tab worked normally on Lightroom Mobile v11.2.2.

However, on June 16, 2026, my Galaxy Tab was updated to Lightroom Mobile v11.4.0, and after that update, the tablet began showing the same issue as my smartphone.

So the comparison is now as follows:

    • Before the update: Galaxy Tab / v11.2.2 → working normally

    • After the update on June 16, 2026: Galaxy Tab / v11.4.0 → same failure appears

This change is very important to me.
At first, I considered the possibility that the issue might be specific to my smartphone.
However, after the Galaxy Tab, which had previously worked normally, was updated and began showing the same symptoms, I believe the issue is more likely related to recent Android Lightroom Mobile versions rather than to one specific device.

    1. My current understanding of the issue
Based on the dates and comparisons I have personally confirmed, this is my current understanding:

    • As of April 22, 2026, Lightroom Mobile v11.3.1 on my smartphone was already failing

    • On the same date, Lightroom Mobile v11.2.2 on my Galaxy Tab was working normally

    • As of April 22, 2026, the issue involved not only “Couldn’t complete export” but also “Failed to load original”

    • On April 23, 2026, an Adobe Community Manager requested additional information

    • On June 16, 2026, after my Galaxy Tab was updated to v11.4.0, the same issue began appearing on the tablet as well

Taking all of this together, I believe this is unlikely to be a problem with one specific photo or one specific device.
Instead, I believe it is more likely to be a regression or compatibility issue in recent Android Lightroom Mobile versions, including v11.3.1 and v11.4.0, affecting original download and device export behavior.

    1. Additional note regarding the timeline
I cannot confirm the exact first moment when the issue began.
However, I can confirm at least the following dates:

    • April 22, 2026: I posted the issue on Adobe Community

    • April 23, 2026: Adobe Community Manager replied

    • June 16, 2026: my Galaxy Tab was updated to v11.4.0, after which the same issue began appearing there as well

I believe the exact initial timeline could be identified more precisely by reviewing both:

    • the Adobe Community posting date, and

    • my Adobe customer support contact history

    1. What I would like Adobe to confirm
I would appreciate confirmation on the following points:

    • Whether “Failed to load original” and “Couldn’t complete export” are known issues in Lightroom Mobile for Android v11.3.1 and/or v11.4.0

    • Whether there has been any regression in recent Android Lightroom Mobile updates affecting original download or “Save copy to device”

    • Whether there is any currently available workaround

    • If logs, reproducible steps, or additional test materials are needed, what format would be most helpful for submission

Based on everything I have tested, I do not believe this is a case of missing cloud files.
The cloud status appears normal, and the photos are visible in Lightroom Desktop and Lightroom Web.
The problem appears to be that recent Android versions of Lightroom Mobile are failing to download the original JPG to the device properly, and as a result, “Save copy to device” also fails.

If needed, I can provide additional screenshots and further version comparison details. Please review the attached screenshots, which show the error messages and the issue as it occurs on my device.

    Thank you.

    Additional detail:
When I tap a photo in Lightroom Mobile on my Android smartphone (v11.3.1), Lightroom tries to download it in high resolution and shows the message:
    “Failed to load original.”
This seems related to downloading the full-resolution original, not just exporting.
