App & user data in Lr

Wondering how I can fix 'App & user data' from requiring 1.5 TB of space on my computer. I've read a number of forum fixes but can't seem to get my issue resolved and have deleted many apps on my computer just to keep it running. I'm using Adobe Lightroom 8.5.1... and I think my full computer problem is due to the 'App & user data' requiring 1.5 TB. How can I free up space? My storage location for originals is set to an external hard drive (prior to two weeks ago though it was set to my local drive C). My cashe size limit is now set to 10 GB (it was ay 456 GB until recently). But still, I can't find or fix the huge amount of space required for App & user data. Help?

I was able to locate the 1.5 TB of Lightroom Data and delete it. Another
method worked. Thank you. Glad my computer is now back up and running.

Good morning @Aleke , any ideas how to resolve the 1.5 TB of app & user data issue? I don't have any star ratings etc on my photos, and I haven't used up much of my cloud space.  Thinking of just uninstalling the appm again, but that didn't work last time...  Thank you

Hi @Jaysen34969756wj4f,

Thanks for sharing the details and screenshots. Since “App & user data” can include multiple types of cached files and local copies, the best next step is to identify exactly which folders are taking up that space. The large Lightroom folders usually live under:

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom CC\

Since Lightroom doesn’t currently provide a built-in way to drill down into what’s consuming the “App & user data” line item, I’d suggest:

  • Use a disk space utility (e.g. WinDirStat) to quickly scan your drive and identify the largest Adobe/Lightroom folders.

  • Alternatively, you can browse manually through the paths above and note which subfolders are very large.

Once you have that information, please let us know which folders are consuming the space. That way, we can guide you on what is safe to clear and what should be preserved.

Best,

Hi @Jaysen34969756wj4f, thanks so much for reaching out!

Could you please go to Edit > Preferences > Cache and share a screenshot of what you see there?

Just a heads-up: the amount of disk space Lightroom uses can change depending on what you're working on. Photos and videos that Lightroom thinks you’re likely to view or edit tend to stay on your disk longer. A few things that can keep a photo in “active” status include:

• Marking it as a Pick or giving it a 4–5 star rating
• Importing or editing it in Lightroom (desktop or mobile) within the last 15 days

Thanks again,
Alek
