Are Adobe app incompatible with NAS if converted to external drive ?

I've lost some editing data today and when contacting support I was told it's definitely caused by the NAS that I use. Long story short : Adobe don't support Network Accessed Storages (NAS).

I got a NAS for the sole purpose of managing my photography work in a centralised storage which I can access from any device.

It's been ongoing for over 5 years but no progress has been made.

I have 2 options now:

1. Spend even more money getting a new external hard drive as my devices don't have enough room and I also want to continue to be able to edit on multiple devices (Mac, Windows, iPad)

2. Convert my NAS into external storage.

I'm leaning towards option 2.

Questions:
Has anyone converted their NAS to external drive specifically to continue using Adobe apps ?
Will there still be compatibility problems ?

My NAS is a Synology DS220j

NAS OS: DSM 7.2.1
