Question

Can't delete photos from disk anymore

Hello,

With my previous version, I could delete my photos from disk from my albums, but with the current version (Lightroom 5.4) I no longer have this option. This is a big irritant.

Has the feature been removed or do I not know how to use it properly?

Thank you.

Can you please clarify which version of Lightroom 5.4 you are using? There are two versions (both of which are obsolete): there's the version 5.4 of the original Lightroom which dates from around 2015 (and which is now known as Lightroom Classic, current version 12.1), then there's the cloud-centric version of Lightroom which was released in 2017 and now is at version 6.1 (so 5.4 was last years version).

So which version are you referring to? Do Help>System Info and post a screenshot of the first 10 lines of the resulting display.

I'm using the cloud centric version. I guess i didn't download the update.

Thanks,

OK, so what happens when you try to delete an image from an album? If you right-click on an image you should see an option to "Delete 1 Photo" or an option to "Remove 1 Photo from Album". Do you see these options (they exist in version 5.4 as well as the latest 6.1)?

Choosing the "Delete" option will remove the image from the album and from All Photos, but it is not yet permanently deleted. Instead it is added to the "Deleted" album, where it will stay for 60 days (to allow you to restore the image should you realise it was a mistake to delete it). Note that if you have a locally stored copy of the image that you have chosen to delete, it is NOT removed from the disk until either the 60 day period expires, OR you open the Deleted album and choose to "permanently delete" the image (either by right-clicking or clicking on the trash-can icon).
