Can't import images on my MacBook Pro macOS 10.15.1

I'm using 10.15.1 (Catalina) on my macbook pro and when I try and import images most of my folders are grayed out and images do not show up so there is no way I can import them.

I've been using lightroom for years and this is new, maybe new version of IOS?

anyway, folders grayed out, images in folders that are not grayed out do not show up in import mode.

any help is appreciated
