Can't open Lightroom catalog

I keep my Lightroom catalog in an external drive and something has happened on my PC to change the designation of the drive from (E:) to (M:). I thought it would just be a matter of changing to the correctly designated drive in Lightroom but although it sees the correct drive it doesn't seem to see much beyond that and certainly not the correct catalog.
