Can you recalibrate the brightness for text watermarks, so the preview brightness matches the actual brightness?

When I edit a text watermarks the preview brightness is much lighter than the actual brightness in the image file.   I have to re-edit the watermark, and guess how much to reduce the brightness to achieve the desired brightness in the image file.
