Captions Disappeared after Syncing

Issue: I use an Android OS 9 model phone and inputted a bunch of captions for photos in an album in Lightroom. Originally they synced to LR Classic just fine. Then I opened Lightroom on my computer and it had syncing issues. Once I got it to sync again all the captions on my photos disapearred. 

This was hours of work erased. 

1) Is there a way to recover the captions that were erased through the syncing process?

2) If this is not a bug how do I prevent this in the future?
