Question

catalog not fully synching between devices

I have Lightroom Classic on my PC and on my laptop. One catalog doesn’t seem to fully sync, there are three files missing on my laptop catalog. This catalog is fully synched on my Lightroom versions on my tablet and Phone, so it’s just the laptop that’s missing the files. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Hi, thank you for your helpful reply.

It was all down to the fact that those three files were edited on the pc with the latest update. the laptop on the other hand was not updated yet. I updated it and all the files are all present and correct now!

    Hi @paolovee,

Thanks for reaching out. It's an interesting situation, the fact that the same catalog/collection syncs correctly to your tablet and phone (Lightroom cloud) but is missing 3 specific files on your laptop's Lightroom Classic is a useful clue. That tells us the images are successfully in the cloud, but something is preventing your laptop's LrC instance from pulling them down completely.

Here are some targeted troubleshooting steps and questions to narrow this down:

    • Verify the images on Lr web: Log in to https://lightroom.adobe.com  and check whether those 3 specific images are visible there with full originals. If they show there but not in your laptop's LrC, it confirms a download-side issue local to your laptop.
    • Clear your laptop's sync cache: Navigate to and delete the Sync Data folder:
      Windows: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Adobe\Lightroom\Caches\Sync Data\Sync.lrdata
      Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe/Lightroom/Sync Data
Then restart Lightroom Classic and let it re-initialize the sync. This has resolved similar partial-sync issues reported by other users.
    • In LrC on the laptop, go to Preferences > Lightroom Sync and verify that the specified download location is accessible and has full read/write permissions.
    • In Lightroom Classic, go to Preferences > Lightroom Sync > hold alt/ opt key > Rebuild Sync data.

Some questions that would help me dig deeper:

    • Are the 3 missing files a particular file type (e.g., video, RAW from a specific camera, HEIC) that differs from the rest of the images in that catalog?
    • Were those files originally added from a mobile device, or were they imported directly into Lightroom Classic on your PC?
    • Do you see any sync activity indicator on the laptop (the sync icon spinning, a count of remaining items), or does it show as "All Synced" even though those 3 are missing?
    • What version of Lightroom Classic is running on your laptop vs. your PC? Are they both on the latest release?
    • When you say "one catalog doesn't fully sync," just to clarify, are you trying to share the same catalog file between your PC and laptop?

Looking forward to your answers so we can get this sorted!

    Best,
