CF Card / Reader ejecting during import

I have tried multiple CF cards, cables (I only have the one reader that I've used for the past 2 years flawlessly) to troubleshoot this problem.  I'm onsite at an event, and Lightroom Classic won't get me through an import.

I am able to import without issue to other programs, from Finder to the new Lightroom.

Why is Lightroom Classic having so many issues?
