Question

Change from LR to LR Classic

I'm on the Lightroom plan with 1TB storage (£9.98pm) but I prefer to use the "old' Classic version: plus I can use Topas Sharpen AI directly (drop down edit menu) with Classic but not the current plan that I am on.

I'm an occasional amatuer photographer so don't use LR everyday, primarily after travel trips. I normally use my home-based Mac Mini on my return. However, I now have an M2 MacBook Air to take with me on those trips - to do some work 'on the road' - so believe that the classic version would better suit my needs.

Reaching out to the experts in this commuity, what would be the best way to get to my goal. Perhaps stop my current plan and move to an alternate one?

Many thanks in advancde.

Some Pros and Cons:

Be aware that if you do change to the Photography Plan your Cloud storage reduces to 20GB (unless you pay the extra for the 1TB Photography Plan). Swapping to LrC might involve reducing (downloading?) your Cloud storage.  (LrC can sync photos up to the Cloud and not use any of your 20GB storage.)

Yes, Lightroom-Classic works with Plugins (Topaz, etc), but Lightroom can also use the apps by exporting images to a local folder and then opening the exported image in the external app. Import the 'new' edited photo back into Lr.

When Travelling, Lightroom might still be useful as it has in v7.0 a new feature to view and edit 'Local' photos that can be selectively added to your Cloud when you have online access.

Using Lightroom-Classic remotely (on a travelling laptop) has its complications of having to Import a Catalog to the Home Catalog when you return home.

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.3, Photoshop 27.5, ACR 18.3, Lightroom 9.3, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0.3 .

To change plans, you can either manually cancel your plan and buy the new one. Or you can contact Adobe customer service and they can help you.

Otherwise, here is a blog post to help you with the steps: https://www.lightroomqueen.com/how-do-i-move-from-lightroom-cloud-to-lightroom-classic/

Note: I have not done this. I went from Classic to the Cloud. Therefore, please read up and understand what you are doing first.

Last point is curiosity on my part. Why are you switching to Classic?

Thanks Tim

I'll have to check on costs to see which version LR or LRC will be the most appropriate.

I bought Topaz Sharpening AI which, when using Classic, intergated and I could invoke the App using the edit drop down menu.  With LR I have to fix the sharpness by exporting from LR: certainly easier and less conplex using Classic.

Many thanks for your help.

Bob
