If you don't have much space on your computer then it's best to import in batches, as Lightroom makes a duplicate of the file locally before it uploads this to the Cloud.

Even I as a hobby photographer, I also store the originals on an offline external hard drive just in case. If you are just going to just delete them from the folder on your local HD though, I would wait to they are safely uploaded to the Cloud first (check syncing has completed in the Cloud icon (top right).
