Lightroom Desktop is NOT the new Lightroom. It is a completely different program that is very confusingly also named Lightroom. Lightroom Desktop is a port of the mobile version of Lightroom to Desktop operating systems. Lightroom Classic is the actual update of Lightroom as we used to know it. Lightroom Desktop misses almost all important features of Classic but it has the neat feature (for those who like that) that it stores all images in the cloud and so your library will be identical on every device you log onto. Lightroom Classic stores all images on your local hard disk(s) but has all the features you are used to such as the ability to print, the ability to easily share on social media (ironically easier on Classic than on the cloud version), X-Y compare, survey mode, books, virtual copies, etc. etc.
